Angels search for answers with K-Rod hurting

speier.jpg

Don't know whatcha got...'til it's gonnnnnnneeee....Can't ya just hear the sultry sounds of Cinderella as they croon this classic? Yes, I know, showing my age, bite me.

But this song immediately came to mind when I was reading about the issues the Los Angeles Angels have now with Francisco Rodriguez on the mend--at least they hope anyways. MRI results for K-Rod's ankle have come back negative and he is day-to-day, but as a pitcher, ankle injuries are always tricky, so what does that give for the options that the Angels have as closers? Hmmm...let's see here.....ummmm....wow....yeah....pretty much nothing.

Yes, there's Justin Speier, but he's not exactly been some one who has proven reliable, and the other veterans (Darren Oliver and Scot Shields) have not been proven closers or have had minimal time taking the ball in the ninth inning, and Oliver is like 400 years old. For young pups, they have a couple of options, but none of those guys have any MLB saves under their belt. Bottom line--it could be ugly for the Angels for a while late in the game.

I guess things could be worse, but not much worse....
