A-Rod the biggest fish of all

arod34021.jpg

Alex Rodriguez is not only the highest paid player in baseball, he's also making more than the Florida Marlins. Johan Santana makes a ton as one of the best pitchers in baseball; he makes 12 million more than the Marlins five starters--combined. Even the Tampa Bay Devil Rays can laugh at the Fighting Fish--they make 14 more million dollars than them.

The salaries of the MLB are being scrutinized a little bit more than usual, and here's some facts: the average salary, for the first time, is 3 million dollars. That's a lot of cash as an average, don't you think? I mean, that means that even the utility player that may get an at bat every other game and play a couple of innings here or there gets maybe 3 million dollars a year.....Ok, that may be pushing it, but still...dang!!! I need to get out on the field right now with my two sons and get them swinging the fungo, don'tcha think? Seriously, the median salary is 1 million dollars, so yes--that guy that may pinch-run or DH against lefties with a last name that starts with the letter R makes 1 million....wow.....

One of the biggest reasons that the Marlins dipped so low was that they rid themselves of their two biggest salaries--Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera--who went to the Detroit Tigers. By doing so, the Tigers vaulted themselves from 12th last year to second, trailing none other than the Evil Empire, the New York Yankees.
