Bannister freezes Tigers

bannisterroyals.jpg

Brian Bannister is a pretty darn good pitcher. I mean, we're talking about a guy who went 12-9 for the Kansas City Royals, who won like 15 total games last year. Ok, it wasn't that bad, but still--it speaks volumes for just how good this guy really is. And today, he shut down the high-priced Detroit Tiger lineup, on the road, by firing for seven innings and only giving up two singles in KC's 4-0 win.

Bannister is not your rock em sock em type pitcher. In fact, he relies more on ground balls and fly outs than anything else--which makes his ability to really make the Tigers look bad even more of a bigger deal. But--on the other hand--Bannister seems to be exploiting a trend that the Tigers are suddenly facing as an anemic offense. Not to take anything away from him, but they are batting now .191 and are averaging 1 run scored per 5 innings. Ouch.

And the Royals are flying high--yes, I know, it's only two games into the season, but they are 2-0 for only the second time in almost 3 decades. Wow...does this franchise need a good year or what? And here I am complaining about the Cubs not winning a World Series in 100 years, and the Royals have this kind of team? (Yes, I know they won it all in '85, but still.....)
