Big Hurt leaves scars on Sox

frankthomas.jpg

The Toronto Blue Jays have had quite the opening series at home. From the first game where the fans were cheering inasmuch that it seemed they were already in the postseason, the team responded with a resounding victory over the always-tough Boston Red Sox. And today, they completed a sweep of the Sox as Frank Thomas continued to torture them.

The "Big Hurt", who has enjoyed a bit of a resurgence since he started to play north of the border, hit his second home run in as many days as the Jays defeated the BoSox 7-4. This effort helped propel Roy Halladay to his first victory of the season, as the former Cy Young award winner pitched eight decent innings, although he gave up 3 home runs.

Thomas home run wasn't just a typical one, it was a grand slam that broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning. Thomas' efforts spoiled Josh Beckett's first outing of the season. Beckett pitched four innings before he was relieved by Manny Delcarmen, who gave up the four-bagger to Thomas.
