Bleary-eyed Red Sox arrive in Japan

redsox1.jpg

Sometimes it's not a good thing to be such a super star. Just ask Daisuke Matsuzaka. I mean, would you like to come off an 18-hour flight and have a bunch of photographers pop-pop-popping at you? Well, if you're Britney Spears, yes, but for the Boston Red Sox, it was the last thing on their minds and least favorite thing.

Now that they've made it to Japan and play two exhibition games prior to opening the year at the Tokyo Dome against the Oakland A's, they just need some rest. Perhaps they are regretting scheduling those goodwill games against the Hanshin Tigers and Yomiuri Giants. And perhaps water is wet. But considering that there were doubts whether the team would even be there due to an avoided "mini strike" in protest over paying coaches for the trip to Japan, the Red Sox should be ready to go against the new-look A's.

This will be the third set of teams to open the major league season in Tokyo and it will be the earliest start ever for the major leagues. With Dice-K on the mound as the starter for the Red Sox, you can bet that you'll hear more flashbulbs going off than a Paris Hilton-Spears oil wrestling match. (Maybe)
