Crede-ence Clear-bases Revival

whitesoxguillen.jpg

Alright, alright, I know, bad pun, and I probably lost about three quarters of my audience showing my age. But hey--I had to get your attention some how, right? :) The Chicago White Sox are streaking--5 in a row now--and they won another game in their home opener versus the Minnesota Twins in dramatic fashion, this time in a comeback victory where third baseman Joe Crede sent a bomb out of the park in the seventh inning for a grand slam. The Sox ended up winning 7-4.

Crede, who was the subject of some pretty heavy trade discussion in the offseason, has started off the year sssssmokin'. He is now hitting .393 with 10 RBIs--which is almost half of his total for ALL of last year. The Sox have been revitalized by solid pitching and manager Ozzie Guillen has them playing with fire--something that they were totally without all of last year. I may not respect Guillen that much, but there's one thing you can say about the guy--he will fight for his players to the death, and sometimes that is a bad thing, but for the most part, it shows the loyalty needed to model to players that isn't really all that existent in the big leagues these days. Considering he's been booted 13 times in almost 4 years--including one today--you've got to hand it to the guy for standing up for what he believes in.

Javier Vazquez got his first victory of the year over the Twins after looking very shaky to begin the game. He ended up giving up three earned in seven strong innings, striking out eight players while only giving a pass to one. Folks--the Sox are here to stay--and if they keep on playing with this much heart, you may see another title hanging from their rafters--I know it's early--but I like what I see.
