Oswalt gets first win of '08

Roy O17.jpg

Let's face it. Roy Oswalt has always been one of those special pitchers who just continues to give great numbers year in and year out. So it was a huge surprise to see him start the way he did this year when he just couldn't win--and seemed to not be able to get anyone out either. Coming into tonight's game, he had a bloated 9.00 ERA and his team was in last place in the NL Central.

But tonight it was vintage Oswalt, as he dominated the Phillies and only gave up one run, lowering his ERA to 6.65. Yes, it's not glamorous, but he looked good. And after losing his first three starts of the year, you can bet that sound you heard after the game was a huge sigh of relief coming from Oswalt. The Astros are still in last place, and they may not exactly turn things around permanently, but with Oswalt pitching like this, they've got at least a shot at respectability again.
