Podsednik bumps Sullivan from Rockies Roster

Colorado rockies Primary_Logo.jpg

Scott Podsednik had a couple of rough last years with the Chicago White Sox. The speedy outfielder had hit the injury bug pretty badly, and so when he signed with the Colorado Rockies, I don't believe many people really thought that he would really be more of someone who could spot the talented Rockies' outfielders. But during spring training, Podsednik suddenly looked like the outfielder of old, and what happened was pretty surprising.

Cory Sullivan, who was long regarded as the Rockies' best defensive outfielder, was optioned to the minor leagues due to Podsednik's spring, along with his mediocre showing. Of course, this is really again no surprise with the move of offense for defense, because Colorado never has really had any defense-first players, no scrappy utility type players who are more important in the field than in the batter's box, it's always been about the offensive stats.

Even though it's been said that Podsednik made the team as the fifth outfielder, if he can start slapping the ball around and stealing bases, it will mean a lot more playing time. One thing is for sure--if he can do that and have more repetitions, he may even be a prime candidate for comeback player of the year.
