Rollins finally put on DL

rollins1.jpg

Why would you delay the inevitable? If a player is hurting and doesn't really play up to the remote potential they have, wouldn't you just go ahead and put them on the disabled list? In the case of Jimmy Rollins and the Philadelphia Phillies, the management of the team has to be asking themselves that very question. Why? Because Rollins actually sprained his ankle on April 8th--and only today did they put him on the DL.

They tried to pinch hit him and thought his lateral movement had improved, but actually the pinch hitting aggravated the problem--go figure! So, in reality, he has missed 10 games since April 8, and now he's going to be out another two weeks. With the 2007 NL MVP basically out then a month, the results could be devastating to the Phillies, who absolutely HAVE to have him in their lineup.

Charlie Manuel has taken the heat for the lack of trying to get Rollins in a better situation, but the front office is not blaming Manuel, and the fact is--the Phils have started off very disappointingly, and the starting pitching has been extremely shaky all over, and the hitting has been very sporadic. Hurry back, Jimmy, your team needs you.
