Soriano Sore? NO!

soriano1.jpg

The Chicago Cubs are used to futility. They are used to disappointment. However, it still doesn't help or soothe things when your star goes down--and for Alfonso Soriano, that is exactly what may be the case. Soriano, who has a trademark "skip" when he goes to catch a routine ball, did so in the first inning against the Reds, and--oops---suddenly he started to limp. Guess that trademark skip isn't all that it's cracked up to be, is it, hot dog?

While there hasn't been any indication as to the extent of the injury, if the Cubs lose Soriano for any extended time, it could be devastating for a team that started off slow and has gradually picked up steam. While Soriano has struggled at the plate this year so far (hitting .175), the team overall hasn't done much better, hitting a lowly .249. Soriano is one of those players that can explode at any time, so while he hasn't shown it yet, you have got to have his bat in the lineup every day.

Meanwhile, Soriano's replacement, Mike Fontenot, hasn't exactly been chopped liver thus far, and perhaps this is a slight blessing in disguise, to give Soriano a bit of a "regrouping" break and keep Fontenot's hot bat in there. I'd love to think that, but I know better--the high paid player should be getting the reps, so stay tuned.
