Thomas' pride suffering big hurt

thomasjays.jpg Frank Thomas has had a career that has literally been a roller coaster. When he started with the Chicago White Sox, he seemed to be unstoppable, hitting for power and average, destroying pitchers almost at will. In fact, in 1996 and 1997, he had back to back years of hitting 40 homeruns AND hitting over .340, almost unheard of in this day and age. But then, by 2001, he was hurt and only played 20 games, hitting a measly .221. He had an awful 2002, and in 2003 had another stellar year. But, then, 2004 rolled around and he fell apart once again. 2005 spelled the end of his career with the White Sox after he hit .219 and again had injury issues.

After spending a good year with Oakland in 2006 (39 HR and 114 RBI), he went to Toronto and had a decent 2007, with 26 dingers and 95 RBI while hitting .277. But 2008 seems to be another down year for Thomas after the first month of the season, as he's only hitting .167 in 60 ABs. And so, without further adieu, Mr. Thomas, meet Mr. Bench.

Thomas is unquestionably unhappy with the decision, but the Blue Jays can't sit around and wait for Thomas to regain his hitting if they have other options--and considering that Thomas' contract is such a hot topic, this could be a sign of the gradual "pushing out" of Thomas to another team or maybe even him being put on waivers; and if a team doesn't take a chance on the DH, he could be done; a sad ending to a career that actually overall is pretty good statistically. But would YOU take another gamble on such a roller coaster ride of a player?
